The Lunar New Year Bendigo festival lit up Dai Gum San Precinct with dazzling performances, delicious food, and vibrant cultural celebrations. From dragon dances to lantern parades, this unforgettable event showcased the best of Bendigo’s rich heritage.
Bendigo came alive on February 1st, 2025, as the Lunar New Year Festival transformed the Dai Gum San Precinct into a spectacular celebration of culture, tradition, and community. Hosted by the Bendigo Chinese Association, this free event drew families, friends, and visitors for an evening filled with entertainment, food, and festivities.
 
The event featured mesmerizing lion and dragon dances performed by the Bendigo Chinese Association Lion Team, bringing the streets to life with rhythmic drumming and dazzling costumes. Crowds gathered to witness the Lantern Parade, a breathtaking display of glowing lanterns symbolizing hope and prosperity for the Year of the Snake.

Cultural performances captivated audiences throughout the evening, with acts such as Cantonese Opera Singing, martial arts displays by the Hong Hong Kung Fu Club, and musical performances from the Mugi Rahayu Gamelan Ensemble. The Indian Association of Bendigo and the Karen Culture and Social Support Foundation added to the festival’s multicultural charm.
 
Food lovers indulged in a feast of traditional Asian cuisine, with multicultural food vendors serving up mouthwatering delicacies. Families and children enjoyed hands-on activities like hand-drum making and coloring stations, making it a fun and inclusive experience for all ages.
 
“It’s amazing to see the community come together to celebrate such a vibrant tradition,” shared one attendee. “The performances, the food, the energy—everything was just magical!”
