Stunning performances marked the Athletics Victoria XCR Round 4 at St Anne’s Bendigo.
Athletics Victoria’s XCR Round 4 returned to the stunning landscapes of St Anne’s Winery in Bendigo on June 15, 2024. This 8km cross-country race saw participants navigating through picturesque wetlands, ancient River Red Gums, and vineyards. The event attracted runners and spectators alike, creating an electric atmosphere.
The highlight of the event was the impressive performance by the Bendigo Bats, the local running team. Key runners like Andy Buchanan clinched a podium finish in the Male Open 8km with a time of 23:58, narrowly missing first place. Other notable Bendigo Bats included Benji Carfoot and Tyler Fynch, who dominated their respective age categories.
The Bendigo Bats are a unifying force in the region’s running community, fostering a spirit of competitiveness and camaraderie. With a range of athletes from early teens to seniors, the team embodies the community’s passion for running.
Spectators were treated to more than just the race. St Anne’s Winery offered wine tasting, coffee, and delicious food from a pizza van, making it a perfect family outing. The event showcased the best of Bendigo’s vibrant outdoor lifestyle, encouraging community participation and well-being.
