On Saturday, 15 June 2024, Bendigo Tramways hosted a Community Open Day, unveiling its newly expanded museum to the public. This event offered a unique opportunity for visitors to dive deep into Bendigo’s history, with free Vintage Talking Tram Tours and guided tours of the Depot and Workshop expansion.

Visitors explored the fascinating process of tram restoration, enjoyed a ride on trams over 100 years old, and took in the city’s landmarks from a unique vantage point. The Vintage Talking Tram Tour provided a 1-hour round trip through Bendigo, with trams departing every 20 minutes. Stops included the Central Deborah Gold Mine, Charing Cross, Bendigo Tramways Depot, Lake Weeroona, Tysons Reef, and the Bendigo Joss House Temple.

The museum showcased artifacts and photos from the vault, allowing visitors to immerse themselves in 130 years of tramway history. The Central Deborah Gold Mine offered surface tours, and for those seeking a deeper adventure, underground tours were available for a fee.

The new Tram Café provided a cozy spot for attendees to relax and enjoy light meals. The day also featured cultural experiences at the Bendigo Joss House Temple and engaging activities such as gold panning at the Central Deborah Gold Mine.
