The More You Know
The Strathfieldsaye Primary School hosted its annual Community Arts Festival on July 19-20, 2024, celebrating the creativity and talent within its student body and the broader community. The event kicked off with a glamorous Gala Night on Friday, followed by a day filled with engaging workshops and exhibitions on Saturday.
Event organizers Bec Soulsby, Melinda West, and Sally Downes received high praise for their meticulous planning and dedication over the past few months. Their efforts ensured the festival’s success, showcasing over 53 art pieces judged by guest judge Geoff Paynter. Winning artists Greg Penno, Nadee Jayasekera, and Sarah Wallace-Smith were honored, along with highly commended artists Susie McGrath, Belinda John, Kay Robinson, and Ian Barry.
he festival’s theme, “Dancing with Dragons,” was brought to life through various activities, including art sessions, artist-in-residence displays, music, and children’s entertainment. It was a delightful experience for families, who braved the wintery conditions to enjoy the vibrant atmosphere.
Principal acknowledgments were extended to parent helpers Sarah McCumber, Kim Kohlman, Kylie Tan, Ange Connelly, and Melinda Rosser, along with staff members Rachael Connely, Jo Grace, Mick Roberts, Dave Taylor, Lindsay Dwyer, Lynley Jordan, and Luke Dunstan. Special thanks also went to Grade 6 helpers, Layla and Rachael, for their significant contributions.
Community engagement was further enhanced by generous sponsorships from Brennan Development Group, Strathfieldsaye and Districts Community Enterprise, Their Care Strathfieldsaye, Rotary Bendigo, Axe Creek Coaches, Imagine Strathfieldsaye, and Strategem. The festival’s success was also bolstered by donations from local businesses such as Bendigo Pottery and Bendigo Woollen Mills.
