Scots on Show Festival brought Scottish culture to Bendigo on November 9. Pipe bands, Highland dancing, and Scottish-themed stalls filled the Showgrounds in an unforgettable celebration!
The Scots on Show Festival, held on November 9 at the Bendigo Showgrounds, was a vibrant celebration of Scottish heritage and culture. Organized by the Golden City Pipe Band, this inaugural event featured a thrilling pipe band competition, a showcase of Highland dancing, and a colorful array of Scottish-themed stalls. The festival saw crowds drawn to Bendigo, with many locals and visitors alike eager to experience the sights and sounds of Scotland.
One of the highlights of the event was the massed band performance in the afternoon, where multiple bands joined together to create a powerful, harmonious display. Pipe major and Golden City Pipe Band president Davyd Leech shared that the festival aims to revive Bendigo’s tradition of Scottish gatherings. “We wanted to bring back that experience and create a space for the community to connect with Scottish roots. It’s great to see such strong support,” he said.
The Showgrounds were filled with an authentic Scottish atmosphere, complete with clan tents, traditional baked goods, and crafts. Families enjoyed exploring the stalls, grabbing a meal from the food trucks, and relaxing with the live music. With entry by gold coin donation, Scots on Show offered an affordable, family-friendly day out for the whole community, inspiring hopes that it will become an annual tradition in Bendigo.
