On May 18, 2024, the Great Stupa of Universal Compassion hosted the much-anticipated ILLUMIN8: Festival of Light and Peace. From 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM, attendees were treated to a vibrant celebration of peace and harmony, inspired by the life of Buddha and the Tibetan festival of Saga Dawa.
The event featured a variety of performances, including the mesmerizing Gamelan Orchestra, the Dragon Daughter Dance, and traditional Sri Lankan Kandyan and Kulu dance acts. Attendees also enjoyed interactive light sculptures throughout the Peace Park, perfect for capturing memorable photos. The evening culminated in a breathtaking fireworks display and the symbolic Burning of the Bad ceremony, where negative emotions were purged in a powerful communal ritual.
“ILLUMIN8 is a festival that brings the community together in celebration of peace and cultural diversity,” said one attendee. “The performances were incredible, and the atmosphere was truly magical.”
With delicious vegetarian and vegan food options available, the event catered to all tastes and dietary preferences. Accessibility was a priority, ensuring that everyone could enjoy the festivities, with clear signage and facilities designed to accommodate all needs.
