The More You Know
On National Tree Day, over 50 enthusiastic participants gathered at the Comet Hill Natural Features Reserve to plant native trees and shrubs. Organized by the Rotary Club of Bendigo Sandhurst, this event aimed to enhance the local environment and foster a sense of community involvement.
In a show of support to open up nature reserve access with Lightning Reef Primary School, volunteers worked to remove invasive species and clean up the area, making it more accessible and enjoyable for students and local residents. The Rotary Club, known for its dedication to community service, secured grant funding from Planet Ark to purchase the trees from a nearby nursery.
Stewart Annan from the Rotary Club of Bendigo Sandhurst emphasized the importance of such initiatives, stating, ‘This is our first year at Comet Hill, and we plan to return next year to continue our efforts in improving this beautiful natural reserve.’
The club, with over 40 active members, is committed to various projects throughout the year, including Australia Day celebrations at Lake Weeroona and markets during the Bendigo Easter Fair. Their ongoing support for local schools and community events showcases their dedication to making Bendigo a better place for all.
