The Harvest Moon Festival Bendigo, hosted by the Bendigo Chinese Association, dazzled the Dai Gum San Precinct on Friday, September 27th, 2024. The event featured Gwong Loong, a 30-metre Bright Dragon, alongside an exciting cultural celebration.
Bendigo’s Harvest Moon Festival lit up the Dai Gum San Precinct on the Grand Final Public Holiday, Friday, September 27th, 2024. Hosted by the Bendigo Chinese Association, the celebration offered a stunning blend of cultural performances, delicious food, and community activities. The festival, an important event in Chinese culture, honours the autumn harvest and the themes of unity, prosperity, and gratitude.
Families and festival-goers were treated to spectacular dragon appearances, including Gwong Loong, a 30-metre Bright Dragon, and Yar Loong, the majestic 34-metre Night Dragon. The vibrant performances, alongside an energetic Lion Dance supported by the Indian Association of Bendigo, captivated the crowd. “It’s wonderful to see Bendigo come alive with such rich cultural expression,” one attendee remarked.
Children participated in a fun-filled lantern-making activity, followed by a lantern parade at 5 p.m. To top off the evening, the night concluded with the dragons and lions returning home in a dazzling procession accompanied by a firecracker show, symbolising good fortune and prosperity.
Attendees were also able to sample traditional mooncakes, a seasonal dessert, while food vendors from Bendigo and surrounding areas provided a multicultural feast, adding flavour to the festivities. The Harvest Moon Festival offered an unforgettable evening for everyone in the community, bringing people together in celebration of culture and the changing seasons.
