Enlighten Stupa brought a magical atmosphere to Bendigo’s Peace Park on Saturday, August 17, 2024. This exclusive event transformed the tranquil surroundings of the Great Stupa of Universal Compassion into an otherworldly lightscape. With mesmerizing light displays projected on the stupa and dazzling sculptures illuminating the gardens, attendees were treated to an enchanting experience under the night sky.
This year’s Enlighten celebrated the traditional Buddhist Hungry Ghost Festival. According to tradition, this is a time when the gates of the afterlife open, allowing the deceased to visit the living in search of food and entertainment. The event honored this festival with a vibrant mix of cultural performances, including a captivating Chinese Lion Team performance and roaming ghost performers that added an air of mystery and excitement.
Lama Zopa Rinpoche has often said, “The Great Stupa will enlighten the world,” and this event certainly embodied that vision. Guests not only enjoyed stunning visual displays but also connected with the deeper spiritual significance of the festival.
