Bendigo Remembrance Day service saw locals gather in solemn reflection. The Bendigo Remembrance Day service welcomed over 200 attendees who came to honor and remember those lost in conflict.

On Monday, November 11, 2024, Bendigo held a moving Remembrance Day service at the Soldiers Memorial Institute, gathering over 200 community members to reflect on the sacrifices made by service members throughout history. Hosted by the Bendigo District RSL, the ceremony included a poignant address by Bendigo-born veteran Stafford Kelly CSM, who spoke about his personal connection to the Fromelles Project, which recovered the remains of Australian soldiers from World War I.

With wreath-laying and a minute of silence observed at 11 am, the event provided a time of unity and solemn reflection. “It’s a day to honor those who paid the ultimate price for the freedoms we enjoy,” Kelly remarked. Attendees wore poppies, the enduring symbol of Remembrance Day, to honor fallen soldiers and their sacrifices.

The Bendigo District RSL also held a parallel ceremony at Brassey Square in Eaglehawk, inviting residents to gather and pay their respects. The ceremonies underscored the importance of remembering those who have served, including the 60,000 Australians who lost their lives in the Great War. For locals, it was a meaningful opportunity to come together, reflect, and ensure that these sacrifices are never forgotten.
