The More You Know
Bendi-Con 2024 was a day to remember, as Bendigo’s premier pop culture event celebrated its 10th anniversary with a bang. Held on August 25th at the Red Energy Arena, the event drew fans from all over Regional Victoria for a six-hour extravaganza filled with comics, toys, guest speakers, and, of course, incredible cosplay.
The day kicked off with a range of panels, including a special session by Mark Morrison from Chaosium Games, and continued with insightful discussions on the comic book industry led by Aussie legends Bruce Mutard and Dillon Naylor. The highlight of the day was undoubtedly the Cosplay Contest, which saw the largest turnout in Bendi-Con’s history. Attendees marveled at the creativity on display, with participants competing for prizes sponsored by local businesses like Pop Toys and Lumin’s Workshop.
Despite a brief power outage, the event ran smoothly, with fans enjoying everything from speed-transforming demos by the Transformers Collectors Club Australia to fundraising efforts by fan groups like the 501st Legion Knightfall Garrison. Funds raised from the event will go to the Peter MacCallum Cancer Foundation, showcasing the heart of the Bendi-Con community.
As always, Bendi-Con’s success was due in large part to the dedicated volunteers, sponsors, and fans who made it all possible. With ten years now in the books, the event has solidified its place as a beloved tradition in Bendigo, and attendees are already looking forward to next year’s festivities.
